Project Uganda

Recently on her graduate thesis trip to Uganda, my sister Lara visited a school in Kabalagala, an impoverished and often forgotten area just outside the capital of Kampala. Lara wrote, “The school is nothing less of a special place. Each time I have the opportunity to interact with children living in communities much like this one, I leave having regained a true sense of joy. School is often seen as a place of refuge, an escape from struggles such as hunger, crowded living spaces, and in some cases, a lack of adult love and attention.” And each Friday, there is a special time called ‘The Golden Hour’ when 30 of the 100 students play soccer together as a reward for showing excellence that week.

The goal of this project is to provide the children with sports uniform/kit, including shoes and soccer balls. To outfit the teams we need $1,200. The first of hopefully many projects with the school, this is a special opportunity for us to make a direct impact – and we need help to make it a reality. There are no overheads and so 100% of any contribution will directly touch these kids.

Magnifica Photography will donate $25 for every portrait session booked between February 14, 2011 and April 30, 2011*.

In the spring I will be holding a fundraiser through Magnifica Photography to raise money for this cause, so stay tuned for details!

If you are interested in supporting the project which is being coordinated through i.HUG, you can click here to make a donation towards giving these impoverished children a sense of teamwork, pride, and most of all FUN while being active.

IMPORTANT: Please reference the Uniform Project and mention that you heard about it from me (Caryn Bierbauer) in the ‘how did you hear about the org” box.

Africa has a special place in my heart, just like it does for my sisters and parents. It is the continent where I was born and even though I have not lived there in many years, Africa has never really left me. Thank you for your support!

All contributions are tax-deductible.

*Session must be booked with a deposit and signed contract.  Sessions do not need to be done between these dates.
